With Rise in Sales, BMW Overtakes Mercedes
The Teutonic battle for automotive dominance turned for BMW last year, with BMW selling 1.209 million cars versus 1.201 million for Mercedes. This past February, BMW extended its lead with a 7% increase in sales, compared to a precipitous 11.6 percent decline for Mercedes. To say Mercedes needs a hit is like saying the 1970s band Supertramp needs a hit, except that Supertramp is more relevant to the marketplace.
