1963: The plans begin. To be built upon the Ford Falcon unibody platform, Mustang is discussed at length before a single sketch is drawn. The all-consuming goal is to make a car that looks like no other. Sweeping hood, sculpted flank, and short rear deck set the Mustang apart.
1964: Ford officially introduces Mustang on April 17. Fastback debuts on Oct. 1. Standard equipment includes floorshift transmission, full wheel covers, padded dash, bucket seats, and carpeting.
1966: Much to the buyer’s and collector’s delight, Mustang is "refreshed" annually. For 1966, thin bars, leaving the galloping horse to float in its chromed rectangular frame, replace the honeycomb grille texture.

The victory means Gentilozzi has now equalled the 29 Trans Am wins of legendary US driver Mark Donahue. The stunning Jaguar Advanced Lightweight Coupe concept car makes its Hollywood debut this week with a very special appearance at the exclusive "Night Before" party this Saturday, February 26, 2005. Held on the eve of the Academy Awards, this party is attended by the film industry elite to celebrate a night where they are all still winners.
"Jaguar is thrilled to present the new Advanced Lightweight Coupe concept car to Hollywood at the exclusive 'Night Before' party," said C.J. O'Donnell, executive vice president of Marketing, Sales and Communications for Jaguar North America. "This elite gathering provides perfect opportunity to showcase the future look of Jaguar cars to a highly creative audience."
The Jaguar Advanced Lightweight Coupe concept car, which debuted at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year, is a one-off car specifically created to show that the design of all future Jaguar cars will be more contemporary and have a similar atmosphere to the Advanced Lightweight Coupe. Jaguar will be the exclusive luxury automotive brand featured at the party due to Ford Motor Company's (parent company) title sponsorship. This one-of-a-kind beautiful, fast car is sure to catch the eye of stars looking for the next must-have luxury sports car. One lucky attendee will win the rights to a production version of Jaguar's next generation sports cars, which will be delivered in 2006.
Sponorship of this party as well as managing all Hollywood relationships is directed out of Ford Motor Company's Global Brand Entertainment office located in Beverly Hills, CA. The office is managed by Myles Romero and Robert Witter of Ford Motor Company, as well as and senior advisor to Ford Motor Company, Al Uzielli.
This is the second year Ford Motor Company has sponsored the highly exclusive 'Night Before' party. It already is one of the most talked about gatherings in Hollywood and attracts about 1,000 A-list attendees. Scheduled to be held poolside at the Beverly Hills Hotel, the press- and publicist-free party allows stars to mix and mingle while raising funds for the Motion Picture & Television Fund. The Fund provides the entertainment industry with financial, health and human services benefits.
About the Advanced Lightweight Coupe
The Advanced Lightweight Coupe concept car heralds a new generation of stunning Jaguar sports cars and sports sedans. The car remains true to Jaguar's illustrious past but more importantly signals the company's confident leap forward into the future.
The Advanced Lightweight Coupe is a physical expression of Design Director, Ian Callum's thoughts and intentions for the next generation of Jaguar cars, which like this 2+2 show car, will have purposeful and seductive exteriors that bring Jaguar design firmly into the 21st century.
The Advanced Lightweight Coupe benefits from Jaguar's advanced lightweight aluminum architecture technology that was introduced with the new XJ sedan; in production form the Advanced Lightweight Coupe would be as dynamic and agile as it is desirable.
This is a car that in unrestricted production form could reach 60 mph from standstill in less than five seconds, and have potential 180 mph performance. Filled with examples of the intuitive driver technologies that are Jaguar's trademark, the Advanced Lightweight Coupe also introduces some new ones.
This is a beautiful, fast Jaguar, true to the brand's past and future. It embodies sporting luxury and represents the future of Jaguar, as an ambassador for a marque whose reputation was founded on beautiful dynamic sports cars. [Auto News] [Concept Car] [Car Review]
