The Ford Model U Concept is propelled by an internal combustion engine (ICE) that's optimized to run on hydrogen fuel instead of gasoline. The engine is supercharged and intercooled for maximum efficiency, power, and range. Its emission of all pollutants, including carbon dioxide, is nearly zero, and the engine is up to 25 percent more fuel-efficient than a typical gasoline engine. The hydrogen ICE is a common-sense powerplant that uses existing, proven technologies to deliver the environmental benefits of a hydrogen fuel cell, but at a fraction of the complexity and cost. The race weekend started dismally for the McLaren-Mercedes F1 Team. In an interview today, Dieter Zetsche, head of the Mercedes Car Group, told reporters "A lot of work has to be done." Little did anyone realize, when the 1998 Volkswagen Passat debuted in late 1997, that it would have such an influence in the mid-size sedan class. Prior to that time, Volkswagen's mid-size sedans - called, in North America, Dasher in the late 1970s, Quantum in the 1980s, and finally Passat in the `90s - had been minor players. While browsing the Ottawa Sun Times today, I stumbled upon an interesting article about the G-Wagon. After losing several soldiers to suicide bombers and anti-tank mines, outraged Canucks demanded that the military provide Canadian soldiers with better vehicles than the 20 year old Iltis jeeps they were using at the time. The AIADA newsletter reported that Kia said yesterday it will recall over 70,000 of their 2004 and 2005 Spectra sedans because the computer that operates the air bag system may confuse a child seat for an adult in the front passenger seat, reports AP. There are times when testing a new car can be a real pain. In the case of the 2005 Mazda RX8, it was having to say goodbye. It was like when the bell rang. Recess was over. No more fun until next time.
