New Volvo Innovation Aims to Keep Drivers Alert
Volvo Cars has developed what it calls a world-first innovation that can detect if a driver is getting drowsy. Called Driver Alert, the company says the system has never once missed a driver who was falling asleep at the wheel. Unlike existing technologies that measure eyelid movement, the Volvo system is designed to issue a warning well before that happens. "We do not monitor human behavior, which varies from one person to another," said Dr, Wolfgang Birk, project manager in charge of Driver Alert at Volvo.
